Electronic access control to facilities and buildings is not something we can consider as a new thing. For years we can see how, for example, many offices have digitized their access controls, registering exits and entrances for both visitors and employees.

However, the vast majority of places where electronic access controls are necessary and would greatly benefit facility conditions have not yet implemented this technologies. From gyms to offices, factories or stores, electronic access control systems can be implemented to be more competitive, safe and modern.

Electronic control access to buildings and facilities systems

Electronic access and presence controls are far from being a widespread reality. Just a small part of the places where it would be necessary and beneficial to implement them have been able to establish these electronic controls.

The implementation of these systems presents a series of advantages that justify their use:

  • Movement and accessing management: both at employee and customer level.
  • Better global management: up-to-date and accurate information on capacity and situation of facilities, errorless and real-time.
  • Safety of both customers and employees and JSA: risk prevention and security guarantees within the facilities.
  • Cost savings: opting for an automated access control service reduces security costs and improves the productivity of office/facility management professionals.
  • Corporate image and quality service: a feeling of modernity and security is emitted to all audiences.

The most common method for electronic access control is the use of NFC chip ID cards. However, much more effective and secure systems have been developed than these traditional cards that hang from corporate lanyards.

Advantages of biometric facial recognition

Biometric facial recognition and digital identity verification have been a revolution in all fields. From the remote acquisition of new customers to electronic access control systems to facilities and buildings.

Adopting an access control system based on facial biometrics not only optimizes and improves unprecedentedly its performance but also avoids a number of significant risks in relation to situations such as the Sars-Cov-2 pandemic.

Biometric systems for electronic access control have a number of unique features that turn into an obsolete solution the usual and standardized method based on cards:

  • The biometric pattern of a person is unique and irreplicable. A mathematical model analyzes the face to create an immutable electronic identity. Users will not be able to exchange cards.
  • Risk of loss and deterioration of NFC access cards is completely eliminated, while the costs of creating, replacing or updating them are reduced to zero.
  • The possibility of a forgery or identity theft is removed. From the theft of the card to its imitation. Biometric systems are protected against possible fraud.
  • More convenience for system users. They can be cool if they forget the accessing card.
  • Greater versatility. It is easier to deploy camera devices, both mobile and fixed ones, than NFC reader devices.

Electronic access to buildings and facilities with facial identification is very similar to the traditional access method. Already registered users should near the access area and, instead of approaching the identification card, they look at a specific area where the camera is located. Subsequently, access to the facility or building will or will not be granted to the user.

For non-registered users, such as clients or visitors, it will be as simple as approaching a digital terminal, where they will only have to provide name, surname and reason for the visit (the DNI and phone number can be requested additionally or name of the person with whom they have the meeting). This process may or may not be assisted by the reception or point of sale staff, depending on the security needs of the location.

Once registered, they will be granted a series of access levels depending on what is planned and whether, for example, an appointment with a person with the name and identity that they register had already been scheduled.
